About the release

'Light' marks the start of a new era for PAB, driven by mature themes, raw emotions, and human experiences. The song reflects the light within us and how external challenges can dim it. Darkness, simply the absence of light, becomes a metaphor for the protagonist's descent into villainy.

The story follows a man shaped by trauma and disappointment, with pivotal moments shown as light bulbs extinguishing in a room. As hope fades, the final bulb shatters, symbolizing his full turn to darkness. The lyrics question societal pressures and their impact on individual well-being, exploring how life's struggles can erode the light we hold inside.

Inspiration and process

The song comes from the Spanish phrase "hope is the last thing you lose" that I used to say to myself for a long time.

There was a time when I felt overwhelmed, carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. Life was tough, and holding onto hope was the only thing that kept me going.

The core music and themes of this song were born from those low moments, though it took years to process and write the lyrics with the help of other songwriters. Together, we created a fictional story of a character who gives up on hope, exploring what might have been.

Inspired by "Fight Club’s" quote, "Losing all hope was freedom," the song becomes an anthem for taking control of our fate, no matter the adversity. Writing it was a personal healing process, helping me confront emotions I’d buried. This is just the first part of the story—another single will reveal what comes next.

Notable collaborations & credits

This release is dedicated to my dear friend, Mike Ward, whose talent and passion were nothing short of inspiring. Known for his work with School of Fish and The Wallflowers, Mike was not only a masterful guitarist but also a cherished collaborator.

We worked together across sessions in California (November 2023 and March 2024) and remotely while I was in Panama. His creative input shaped this track, particularly the bridge, which wouldn’t be the same without him. Our final session was spent dreaming about this project and the music video, where we had hoped he’d play a role.Mike passed away less than three weeks later, leaving a profound void.

The golden guitar featured in the video—a Gibson Les Paul Signature in gold top finish—is a tribute to his favorite instrument and his enduring legacy.Thank you, Mike, for your friendship and artistry. You will always be remembered.Collaborators on this Release
